Mental health is
how life is lived.

An honest, ongoing conversation about real emotional intelligence, real relationships, real self-care, real growth; and the kind of inner wellness that meets you in your actual life.

I'm Dr. Pauline Belton. Pull up a chair.

Episode 087 · 22 min Self-Care

When the bubble bath doesn't fix it: real self-care for real life.

We've turned self-care into a Saturday afternoon. But the kind that actually keeps you whole is the one you practice on a Tuesday at 3pm when your nervous system is begging.

Mental health isn't
somewhere you go.

It's how you talk to your partner on a Wednesday. How you answer your mother's third phone call. How you handle the email that made your chest tight. How you forgive yourself for the thing you said last Tuesday.

I built this show because mental health belongs in every room of your daily life. The work is everywhere. It's in the line at the grocery store. It's in your relationship with money. It's in the way you say yes when you mean no.

So here, every week, I sit down with you. We talk about the unfiltered truth. The hard relationships. The quiet doubts. The big dreams. The small daily practices that make a whole life.

I'm a clinician, a professor, an author, a sister, and a woman who has done her own work. But here, mostly, I'm just your therapy doctor. And I'm glad you tuned in.

Practice of the Week

The 3-Minute Rinse before you walk in the door.

Before you walk into your house, your office, your relationship, your next thing; give yourself three minutes to come back to yourself. Most of us carry the last thing into the next thing. This is how you stop.

01 ·
Sit. In your car, on a bench, on a stair. Keep the phone closed.
02 ·
Name. What did the last hour ask of me? Say it out loud, even if quietly.
03 ·
Set down. "I'm setting that down before I walk in." Then walk in clean.

From the Bookshelf

Two books.
One philosophy.

Mental health is how life is lived. Navigating Stress in the Workplace takes that philosophy into your office. The H.E.A.R.T. of Resilient Leadership takes it into your leadership. Both are written for the humans behind the titles.
